ADHRead, 2026
Team size: 5
Role: Gameplay designer
Dev Time: ~ 3 weeks

Background
ADHRead was born out of a rapid prototyping challenge at RIT, focusing on the theme of neurodiversity. In this serious game, players step into the shoes of a student attempting to study while battling ADHD. The loop is deceptively simple: maintain your cursor inside a moving circle to continue reading. However, as "distractions" emerge in the form of sight-blocking mini-games, images, and QTEs, the task becomes increasingly difficult. This project allowed me to explore how obstructive UI and multitasking pressure can be used as narrative tools to convey a specific mental state.
Contribution
As the primary visionary and designer behind ADHRead, I drew deep inspiration from my own childhood experiences with ADHD. This personal connection allowed me to craft a gameplay loop that is not only engaging but also an accurate reflection of neurodivergent challenges. By translating abstract cognitive struggles into tangible mechanics, the project demonstrates my ability to design with empathy and purpose, showcasing creative strengths that extend beyond commercial objectives to deliver a truly meaningful player experience.
