Pangea Odyssey, 2024
Team size: 20 +
Role: Gameplay and System Designer
Dev Time: ~ 2 years (joined halfway for 8 months)

Background
While working at River Games Studio, I was part of the operations team for Pangea Odyssey, a mobile game that blended intense survivor-like bullet hell gameplay with gacha systems. Initially launched on Erolab and later localized for DMM and Nutaku, the game successfully captured a segment of the adult gaming market. Despite its initial traction, the game eventually ceased operations in late 2025 following financial challenges.
Contribution
Operating on a demanding 21-day expansion cycle, I was responsible for the end-to-end planning of game events, from enemy spawning logic to overall difficulty balance. My core focus was crafting unique skillsets for bosses and elite enemies, aiming to strike a balance between creative mechanics and fair challenge, while highlighting the strengths of featured expansion characters.
Beyond design, I held a multifaceted role in general operations, handling everything from IAP pricing and data analysis to direct customer service. This proximity to the player base allowed me to iterate rapidly based on real-time feedback. Working in a lean studio environment also sharpened my communication skills; I collaborated daily with artists on VFX assets and programmers on technical implementation. This experience taught me how to produce high-quality documentation and deliver results under tight deadlines.
I utilize Figma for initial skill drafting and logic mapping, ensuring each mechanic undergoes a rigorous review with the Lead Designer. I then manage the asset pipeline by coordinating with artists for bespoke VFX.
